#StackThatGivesBack - Hurricane Edition
For those of you that have never braced for the potential impact of a record-breaking storm - let me set the scene for you. It sucks. Irma, in particular, felt like the world's slowest moving storm. We are used to having about 4 days' notice, but this time - we were talking about her a week in advance of impact to our area. A week is a lot of time, your emotions run the gamut; from scared to jaded, then terrified, to just plain tired.
No amount of dry shampoo could've rectified the situation that was going on under this hat. But I had to wait until the last possible moment to wash my hair. Strategic hurricane planning.
And of course, social media was in full effect for Irma. Us Floridians tend to make light of hurricanes, not because we don't see the threat, but because - it's easier to hide behind humor than face the fact that every year, for 4-5 months we are scared to death that our homes could be washed & blown away (not the free wash & blow I hope for!) Here were some of my personal favorites.
But all joking aside - we were lucky enough to be spared the brunt of Irma. We were without power for about 36 hours, but our homes, cars, and businesses were all left virtually unscathed. We were LUCKY! Seeing so many people, animals, and homes harshly affected by Irma, Harvey, and now Maria has brought me to tears on several occasions. While it is heartbreaking, there are also happy tears. Seeing people come together to help one another regardless of political standing, religious belief, or ethnicity truly reminds us what America is all about!!!
